Where the hell is the Start button? This is the first question that will pop into anybody’s head when they first start using a Mac.
Right from the time when we know what a computer is, we’re so used to Windows, that if we do not find the “Start” button on the screen we feel something is totally screwed up with the machine we’re working on.
It was pretty similar when I first got my Mac as well.
Had to get used to the fact that whatever stuff you used to do in the bottom of the screen is now @ the top.
Kinda makes sense as it would be easier to access something if its @ the top rather than @ the bottom.
Well that is one of the main advantages of Mac. Usability! Its user friendly as long as the user doesn’t get cranky to try something new.
So to summarize a few stuff for Mac 1st timers.
1 ) There is no “Start” button.
2 ) There is no “Refresh” when you right click.
3 ) The buttons usually on the top right of the window in “Windows” (Hmmm) are now on the top left of the window.
4 ) The Maximize button does not maximize the window to full screen.
5 ) Do not even try to search for the Ctrl + Alt + Delete combo.
6 ) OMG ! There is no backspace! ..
7 ) There is no CUT functionality for files in Mac.. Its only Copy.
8 ) The “control” button is NOT the Ctrl button. The Ctrl button in Mac is “command”.
9 ) The “enter” button DOES NOT launch an application,or open the folder etc. Instead it renames it.
These are a few oddities of Mac which can frustrate any Windows or Linux user so bad that they probably would hate Mac the first time they use it. Or rather wonder why its called so user friendly when it doesn’t even have such simple, must-have features.
Well being a Windows user for around 10 years and hardly a Linux user shifting to Mac was more of excitement, cool rather than Easy and user friendly.
And after shelling so much amount of cash for this I did want to know how people live with all these oddities and still love Mac.
But, honestly there was still this thought in the back of my mind..
“User friendly?? My Ass !! “
